UMTS Enterprise Femtocell provide the full capacity of the UMTS carrier in a limited cell size and handles 32 to 64 users while delivering full HSDPA, HSUPA and HSPA+ performance. They need to be highly integrated to reduce the complete system BOM. This requires a rich set of interfaces that interconnect directly to the RF transceiver, the oscillator, flash and backhaul.
Multiple clock control mechanisms are supported such as NTP, IEEE1588, GPS and GSM/UMTS listen modes.
The software flexibility and high performance of the OCT2224W coupled with its multiple radio IQ interfaces allow a multiple air interface to be run concurrently.
The following diagram shows how to build a highly integrated femtocell using a single OCT2224W device. It interfaces with the radio sub-system through a direct parallel interface that supports MIMO. The embedded CPU will handle the RNC protocols as well as Iuh, the 3GPP protocol specified for the femtocell architecture.
The OCT2224W architecture has been designed to handle by software all known cellular standards.
