Cellular RF Architect

Full time - Starting no later tan November 26, 2007

Position: Octasic is currently developing Base-station baseband and front-end sub-systems for its next generation SDR engines. This software based approach includes modules that perform Layer 1 signal processing, as well as digital radio interfaces to RF front ends for current and next generation cellular standards.

As Cellular RF Architect in the Software Defined Radio team, you will first participate in the architecture definition, selection and integration of the 2G/2.5G (GSM, GPRS, EDGE, eEDGE) prototype front end sub-system with the digital baseband.

In a second step you will define the front-end architecture, implement, validate and integrate, with the baseband, the 3G (WCDMA, HSDPA, HSUPA) reference front end sub-system for small indoor and outdoor base-stations You will closely work with the signal processing and validation experts on the integration and validation phases.

Main Responsibilities

  • Analyze and select RF architecture using integrated ICs to match performance, schedule and cost requirements;
  • Model RF sub-system in reference chain with signal processing experts in order to evaluate and refine full modem system performance.
  • Specify and drive RF front end manufacturing,
  • Specify and develop FPGA interfaces between front-end and digital baseband,
  • Validate RF front end in stand-alone mode
  • Specify and develop software drivers and API for RF sub-system with embedded software team,
  • Integrate and validate RF front end within complete system with system team
  • Assist the validation group during releases and validation phases.
  • Write and review technical documentation used internally and by customers;

Requirements

  • Bachelors Degree in Electrical Engineering;
  • Overall work experience: 5+ years in cellular RF system design;
  • Knowledge of one or several 2G, 2.5G and 3G protocols.
  • Familiar with the following environments:
    • RTL development tools for FPGA,
    • RF board design,
    • RF lab testing and validation,
    • System tools:SPW, ADS, Matlab.
  • Good English writing skills and basic oral English are required; oral French is a strong asset.
