New low-power multi-band SDR solution delivers frequency-agile standalone cellular coverage for IIoT, private networks, and specialized applications
MONTREAL, Canada, February 21, 2018 – Octasic, the leader in low power and frequency agile cellular solutions, today announced it will be unveiling its new wireless hardware platform, the OCTBTS8600, at Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona next week.
“The OCTBTS8600 is the latest evolution of our 8000-series OCTBTS product line. It builds on the features and success of the OCTBTS8500 and improves on its environmental characteristics,” said James Awad, VP Engineering at Octasic. “With its IP67-compliant shock and vibration resistant enclosure, it can be used in vehicles or installed on towers, making it a versatile platform for many different applications.”
The OCTBTS8600 supports two bands simultaneously, which are software-switchable and field-upgradable via filter cartridges that support any 3GPP or non-3GPP band. It also supports Sync-E, making it suitable for environments with no access to a GPS signal (such as mine tunnels) and can be powered over Ethernet (PoE) due to its low power consumption. Antenna configuration has been improved over previous generations–the OCTBTS8600 has a single combined transceiver (TRX) port, which in combination with its three Ethernet ports, enables 3-sector deployments.
OCTBTS8600 features include:

Announcing Octasic’s LTE-UE TDD software for IIoT solutions
Octasic will also be announcing a new addition to its unified IIoT solution portfolio. This year TDD support is added to its LTE-UE software ecosystem, which now supports any 3GPP or non-3GPP deployment on LTE. The new LTE-UE software bundle includes both the physical layer and protocol stack on the UE side for both LTE-FDD and LTE-TDD technologies.
Octasic’s IIoT solution uses the LTE waveform to deliver robust, secure, and high-throughput links on fully frequency-agile hardware modules for rapid deployment. Each IIoT deployment is completely standalone and does not need external connectivity. Octasic’s unified IIoT solution comprises hardware modules for both sides of the network: standalone cellular access points (LTE-in-a-box modules) and data terminals (UEs or LTE gateways). The hardware for both modules is based on Octasic’s low-power OCT2224 DSP technology and can work in any frequency between 70 MHz and 6 GHz.
